Privacy Policy

This policy explains how DefNet collects, uses, holds and discloses personal information for the waitlist, launch activity and future internet services.

Last updated: 5 June 2026

Who we are

DefNet Pty Ltd is a veteran-founded internet provider being built for serving members, veterans, Defence families, supporters and the wider Australian community.

This policy is intended to explain how we manage personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, to the extent they apply to DefNet.

What personal information we collect

At the waitlist stage, we collect the information you provide when you join the waitlist or complete an optional launch survey, such as your first name, email address, internet needs, preferred plan information, Defence-community feature interests and marketing preferences.

When DefNet starts taking orders or providing services, we may also collect information needed to assess availability, connect and support a service. This may include your address, contact details, account details, billing information, service history, support requests, identity checks where required, and technical or diagnostic information about your service.

How we collect personal information

We collect personal information directly from you when you use our website, join the waitlist, complete a survey, contact us, subscribe to updates, or become a customer.

We may also collect limited technical information automatically when you use our website, such as browser type, device information, pages visited, approximate location, referral source and cookie or analytics identifiers.

Why we collect, use and hold personal information

We use personal information to manage the waitlist, send launch updates, understand customer demand, design DefNet services, respond to enquiries, provide customer support, manage accounts, check service availability, arrange connections and disconnections, administer promotions and Founding Member eligibility, and improve our website and services.

We may use your contact details to send DefNet updates or marketing messages where permitted by law. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

Who we may disclose personal information to

We may disclose personal information to service providers who help us operate DefNet, including website hosting, email, customer relationship management, survey, analytics, payment, billing, identity verification, customer support, network, wholesale and professional advisory providers.

We may also disclose information where required or authorised by law, to protect our legal rights, to investigate misuse or security issues, or as part of a business sale, restructure or transfer.

Overseas disclosure

Some of our technology or service providers may store or process information outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to use providers with appropriate privacy and security controls.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure. These steps may include access controls, secure systems, staff or contractor restrictions, and using reputable technology providers.

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask us to access or correct personal information we hold about you. We may need to verify your identity before responding. If we cannot provide access or make a correction, we will explain why where it is reasonable to do so.

Privacy complaints

If you have a privacy concern, contact us first so we can review it. We will consider your complaint and respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Data breaches

If DefNet becomes aware of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will assess the incident and take the steps required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy as DefNet develops, including when waitlist activity moves into customer ordering and service delivery. The latest version will be published on this page.
